Antique Chinoiserie Blue Gilded Triple Wardrobe ArmoireFree Mainland UK And Ireland Delivery

Description:This is a magnificent early 20th Century Edwardian period triple three door blue ground Chinoiserie design gesso and painted gilt highlighted wardrobe armoire.  The wardrobe is highly decorated with classic stork or crane birds with lake, pagoda and figural decorations in an Oriental theme.  The wardrobe stands on a very attractive bracket foot stile plinth with a moulded edge and gilt lattice decorations to the feet having gilded tips to the mouldings on the edge of the feet and gilded edging to the moulding.  Rising over this are the three two panelled doors, the two outer doors depicting cranes or egrets perched on branches, the centre having a floral panel of chrysanthemums or oriental flowers, set within a gilt ribbon border with fruit and floral decorations, fans and scrolls.  Rising over this are the three larger panels with very decorative ogee arches with three lake scenes, the centre panel having three islands, two pagodas and three figures and one bird.  The panels either side have islands, figures birds and the left hand panel having a bridge with a water carrier and another figure having a parasol and above this is the moulded flared cornice with gilt leafage decoration.  There are gilded bird and branch decorations to the sides with a butterfly on the left hand panel and a single bird in floral leafage design and a single bird and branch to the right.  The wardrobe retains its original floral pattern handles and behind the right hand door there is a fitted interior with four solid mahogany drawers with Military style brass handles with a single shelf and four linen slides over, again in solid mahogany, with dovetail joints.  The centre and left hand doors reveals an interior fitted with a single fitted shelf and a three-quarter hanging height with rail and hooks.  The wardrobe has its original mahogany back panels fitted.  A stunning and impressive wardrobe, the ground timber being mahogany with a beautiful deep blue ground of Chinoiserie design with gilt red and yellow figures.Date:The wardrobe dates circa 1900 - 1910.

Condition:The wardrobe is in very nice condition for its age.  There are one or two minor distress marks and one or two minor small chips to some of the blue ground work and some to the gilded gesso work but this does only add to the character and authenticity of the wardrobe.  A particularly good quality wardrobe and very attractive.

 Due to converting our spare room to a nursery I am reluctantly selling this beautiful antique wardrobe. I'm not a wood expert but I'm 99.9% sure its antique pine, its very light coloured wood.It has one deep drawer with two ornate handles, one single door with inset mirror, with lots of detailed carving & panels etc. It also has a shaped carved pelmut/header which we have removed but simply screws on and off. The inside has an original silk lining again with with some beautiful detail, along with rail and several hooks. The wardrobe is very heavy and solid, the drawers are proper dovetails, it's genuinely a lovely piece of furniture. The measurements are listed above, if you need any more please email. This is a nice looking 19th century double mahogany wardrobe compactum that weve just cleared from a local house.It comprises a central section fitted with 4 large drawers and a cupboard with shelves.To the side of that is a hanging section and under that is a large single drawer in the base.The wardrobe breaks down into 3 sections wich are the cornice,body and base.The wardrobe is in good solid condition but has a few knocks/scratches and bruises consistant with over 100yrs of use.That said its not a wreck and ive probably overdescribed any faults,and its definatly got another 100yrs left in it.This is a very nice looking practical wardrobe with plenty of space for loads of gear.
